Tidal Blades
Unlike the razor eel, which typically appears in larger swarms, the giant thunder eels are as romantic as they are deadly. Once they find a mating partner, they are bound for life, uniting their powers to release fatal bursts of electricity.
It's easy to get drawn in by the bright colors of a pair of thunder eels, or to become mesmerized by their synchronized movements as they seem to dance through the water, but heir elegant beauty belies their deadly nature. While they don't typically look for a fight for no reason, they do claim large territories, the borders of which they aggressively patrol and defend.
Motive: Protecting their mate and territory
Environment: Usually in the deeper ocean, but some can end up in the shallower waters of the Inner Reef
Health: 21
Damage Inflicted: Moderate wound (7 points)
Movement: Long when swimming
Combat: As their name suggests, thunder eels inflict electrical damage. Their bodies release long sparks of electricity that look like purple lightning rising from the water, inflicting 7 points of electrical damage (ignores Armor) on a creature in short range.
A pair of thunder eels is even more dangerous, combining their two attacks into a single electrical charge that extends out to a long distance and inflicts 7 points of electrical damage (ignores Armor) on all foes.
Alternatively, the pair may divide and conquer, with one driving forward to create heavy turbulence in the water that hinders all foes in long range by two steps. The second one then releases a supercharged electrical pulse that inflicts a moderate wound (7 points) (ignores Armor) and shuts down all michronic devices (including cyphers and artifacts) for one round.
Thunder eels are immune to electrical damage.
Interaction: Thunder eels are smart, but seem to have no interest in interacting with others.
Use: A pair of thunder eels is an intense and likely deadly encounter, challenging even the most well-prepared characters. Still, many lorehunters and scientists seek them out, hoping to uncover the secret to their electrical powers.
GM Intrusion: After one of the thunder eels takes damage, their partner retaliates, releasing a series of sparks that spread through the water and electrocute everyone in short range, paralyzing them for one round.
