Shroud 4 (12)

Gunslinger Knights

Blowing like fall leaves the size of bedsheets before an oncoming storm, shrouds may fail to register as an immediate threat, especially if other Fundament Storm nightmares are visible.

Which suits shroud hunting strategies. Ambushing prey allows these creatures to cover targets from head to toe, like their namesake. Once enshrouded, all the target's senses are commandeered by the covering creature, effectively cutting the target off from reality.

A shroud plunges their covered victim into an illusion crafted by direct sense control— sometimes hellish, sometimes idyllic, other times challenging—that is designed to distract he victim long enough for the shroud to digest the meal.

Motive: Hungers for flesh

Environment: Fundament Storm edges or anywhere the wind blows; usually in groups of two to five

Health: 12

Damage Inflicted: Moderate wound (4 points)

Movement: Flies a short distance each round

Modifications: Stealth as level 6 (when setting up an ambush)

Combat: A shroud attempts to enshroud prey (see below) as its initial attack, sometimes ambushing—by dropping from rafters, the canopy, or even low clouds—to gain surprise.

d6 False Reality
1 Warm, happy place eating sweets and drinking stimulating beverages.
2-3 Wading through lava—it burns! All Intellect-based tasks are hindered.
4-5 Fighting off nightmares—the target attacks nearby allies (PC targets of Enshroud victims make Speed defense rolls against level 4 attacks).
6 Running from a toppling edifice—the target runs or rides their steed toward the nearest cliff or danger.

Interaction: Shrouds are clever predators, except they never flee once they engage.

Use: Travelers tell of "sheet-covered ghosts" haunting a nearby ruin.

GM Intrusion: The character doesn't realize they retain a bit of shroud stuck to them, which interferes with the truth of their senses at an inopportune time, such as making them think that a gap has a bridge or that a creature that's attacking them isn't.
