Ruin Hawk 5 (15)

Gunslinger Knights

Ruin hawks don't fall from Fundament Storms—they glide out of them on rusted metallic wings. They delight in ruination of any sort but are particularly drawn to structures and artificial constructions, as well as wagons, fence lines, and the growling engines of a Knight's crafted steed. From wingtip to tip, they measure about 13 feet (4 m).

Because they have the ability to cover great distances by air, ruin hawks are sometimes impelled by the Veen to serve as scouts in locations far from areas lately cursed with storm activity. When they range so far, they occasionally forget the vile impetus that sent them forth and instead focus on the nearest building, farm, priory, or commandry—unless a Veen rides them, in which case they obey.

Motive: Destruction, entropy

Environment: Almost anywhere near built structures or convoys that include wagons or similar; in groups of two, sometimes bearing a Veen Alix or Veen Morund rider

Health: 21

Damage Inflicted: Moderate wound (5 points)

Armor: 2

Movement: Short; long when flying

Modifications: Attacks objects and structures as level 8; stealth as level 8 when melded (see below)

Combat: Ruin hawks attack twice on their turn with clawed wings.

Ruin hawks also have the following options available.

Meld: As its action, the ruin hawk melds into an immobile structure or object larger than itself.

While melded, it's hard to see (level 8 stealth), and it gains +5 to Armor. It can leave its melded state as part of another action, but doing so inflicts 5 points of damage (ignores Armor) on the ruin hawk.

Rend

Armor: As its action, the ruin hawk attempts to tear apart a foe's physical armor. The ruin hawk attacks normally, but instead of dealing damage, on a successful hit, a target's Armor score granted by physical armor is reduced by 3. Rended armor remains degraded until repaired.

Shrapnel Burst: As its action (no more than once each minute), the ruin hawk detonates a spray of razor-sharp metallic feathers, attacking all creatures in immediate range, or all creatures in an immediate area that is up to a long distance from the ruin hawk.

Interaction: Ruin hawks are usually as mindless and terrible as any other nightmare from the storms, but hey carry Veen riders when commanded.

Use: Something keeps destroying grain caravans bound for a priory or commandry. Reports of a horrible rider and beast come in from a nearby village.

GM Intrusion: The Knight's crafted steed takes a wing strike and is rendered inoperable until the Knight spends a couple of actions doing repairs.
