Tidal Blades
"I've been hunting razor eels all my life. True, they can slice right through the hardest crocodile armor, but I've never had a problem, so when I heard this Vinian drifter going on about the price he could fetch for a crate of them, well, 'course I took the job. Now eels have always been a tricky catch, what with not being able to hold 'em without a cage, but they've moved further and further out, and since most folks don't like to go near the Fold, I guess that's what raised the price." ~Caiman
Razor eels are common in Naviri, easily recognizable by their long, slender body, spiky dorsal fin, and glittering silver scales. Although they are quite small—only about 30 inches (80 cm) long—and easy to handle individually, they almost always hunt in a large, fast swarm, which makes them quite dangerous, especially since their fine, needlelike teeth can pierce even the hardest armor.
They tend to occupy dead patch reefs during the day, and hunt at night.
Motive: Defending their family and territory
Environment: Almost everywhere in the reefs of Naviri, but most commonly around the Eon Pinnacles
Health: 9
Damage Inflicted: Minor wound (3 points)
Movement: Short
Modifications: Speed defense as level 4 due to size; initiative as level 4
Combat: Razor eels have only one move, but it's a good one: swarm as a group over their prey and eat it alive. They inflict a minor wound (3 points) with their bite, which ignores all but the toughest armor (ignores up to 2 points of Armor).
A swarm of up to a dozen razor eels can attack a single foe with a level 5 attack that inflicts a moderate wound (6 points).
Interaction: Sometimes razor eels are captured young and trained as vicious pets and guardians, kept in underwater cages to protect docks and boats from thieves and attackers.
Use: Razor eels are ubiquitous and can be a dangerous threat to PCs in the water, especially at night. Characters may find themselves suddenly surrounded, without a moment of warning.
Loot: Their thin, razor-sharp teeth and shining silver scales are often used in making jewelry. Good-condition parts from a pair of razor eels can be sold to crafters for a couple of shells.
GM Intrusion: The shiny scales of the razor eel reflect a nearby light source, temporarily blinding one or more characters.
