Expanded Worlds
Armies fielded by nations (or rich city-states) are composed of soldiers. Soldiers receive training, weapons, and support to achieve their goals. They can be deployed in fire-teams of up to four, squads of up to twenty-four, companies of up to 250, or battalions of up to 1,000 strong.
Motive: Accomplish specific military missions
Health: 12
Damage Inflicted: Moderate wound (4 points)
Armor: 1
Movement: Short
Modifications: Perception as level 4.
Combat: Soldiers are armed with melee and ranged weapons appropriate to their genre. When two or more soldiers work as a unit on the same task (such as attacking the same target), they function as if level 4 on that task.
Interaction: Soldiers take orders from commanding officers, negotiating with a soldier provides little gain.
Use: A small squad of soldiers has been commanded to take out a post defended by the PCs.
Loot: Every soldier carries weapons, light armor, and possibly useful things (binoculars, food rations, collapsible shovel, radio —whatever’s appropriate to the genre in which the soldier appears). Elite soldiers begin as talented and motivated individuals trained to the limit of their ability to improve. These individuals are subsequently subjected to so many life-or-death missions that they’d be considered veterans in any other unit.
GM Intrusion: The soldier calls in an airstrike. Characters in an immediate area must succeed on a difficulty 5 Speed defense task or take 5 points of damage and be stunned, losing their next action.
