Core Rulebook
On one of the handful of so-called “lost world” recursions where dinosaurs and other extinct megafauna yet roam, intelligent dinosaurs rose. One of those had the spark, curiosity, and a latent ability to travel the recursions. After witnessing more than one archaeologist from Earth appear through an inapposite gate to collect living fossils, he who later came to be called Doctor Ceratops followed the visitors home and found himself in a lab filled with freaked-out technicians.
That was fifty years ago. Since then Doctor Ceratops has become something of a celebrity recursor. Even when he translates, his dino-humanoid form doesn’t change much from recursion to recursion. But for some reason, nonquickened people ignore his overly large head with its bony plates and horns. Perhaps it’s his horn-rimmed glasses, his jaunty hat, or his impeccable sense of fashion.
Motive: Explore recursions and the Strange
Environment (Standard Physics):Any recursion or the Strange
Health: 37
Damage Inflicted: Moderate wound (7 points)
Armor: 4
Movement: Short
Modifications: Resists cold attacks as level 4; knowledge of recursions and Strange navigation as level 8.
Combat: Doctor Ceratops can use his horns as a melee weapon. If he spends an action charging prior to a melee attack, the damage he inflicts ignores Armor. But if he has the opportunity, in a fight he prefers to use the many cyphers and devices he’s secreted about his person. Dr. Ceratops specializes in grenade cyphers (and actual grenades). He usually has at least six such items on him at any given time, each of which can be thrown at a point within long range, where it explodes. The kinds of grenades he usually employs are as follows; sometimes he randomly selects one, and other times he chooses the best one for his need.
| d6 | Ability |
|---|---|
| 1 | Inflicts 7 points of shrapnel damage in an immediate radius |
| 2 | Glues everything in place in an immediate radius (level 7 polymer) |
| 3 | Inflicts 7 points of psychic damage in an immediate radius |
| 4 | Sucks creatures in immediate radius through an inapposite gate |
| 5 | Puts creatures of level 6 or lower to sleep for one minute |
| 6 | Creates a level 7 force bubble protecting/trapping targets in an immediate radius for one minute |
Interaction: Doctor Ceratops comes across as an enthusiastic academic, one who has spent most of his life in the field researching the topic he loves. He’s usually willing to trade information, but he also enjoys telling people what he’s discovered recently. Use: As the PCs enter an odd new recursion or site within the Strange, they find that Doctor Ceratops has beat them to it and is conducting a study of the location. The doctor may aid the PCs if he senses they are on a similar mission of exploration, but he could hinder the characters if he feels they will disrupt his study. Loot: Dr. Ceratops has two or three cyphers, some grenades (depending on how many he used), 1d100 + 20 units of currency, and a field kit that includes quipment for exploration and archaeology.
GM Intrusion: The character wakens a bit of dinosaur savagery in Dr. Ceratops, whose tri-horn charge knocks her out of short range, in addition to dealing normal damage.
