Tidal Blades
The brightly hued lobobster is a monster the likes of which has not been previously reported in any of the Citadel bestiaries. A lobsterlike creature the size of a house, it boasts two giant pincer claws that it uses to crush anything standing or floating in its path.
Much different than other decapods such as the mudcrab and karakeen, a lobobster radiates a strange, crackling energy aura that acts as a near-impenetrable barrier. This ward protects the lobobster, making it a uniquely difficult and dangerous foe.
Motive: Moving toward an unknowable goal or destination
Environment: Deep sea
Health: 24
Damage Inflicted: Major wound (8 points)
Armor: 3 (from shell) or 10 (when ward is activated)
Movement: Long
Modifications: Speed defense as level 6 due to size and shape
Combat: Lobobsters use their two front pincer claws to crush, drown, or otherwise incapacitate anything that gets in their way.
Typically, a lobobster will activate its ward before entering combat (unless it's surprised), giving it +7 Armor (for a total of 10). Activating its ward is an action.
While warded, lobobsters are vulnerable to michronic energy weapons. A successful attack from such a weapon disables the creature's ward for a number of rounds equal to the attack's normal amount of michronic damage. Any attacks made while the ward is disabled ignore the ward Armor (but not the shell armor).
Interaction: Lobobsters are unswerving in their goal of reaching their destination.
Use: Encountering a lobobster in the deep seas is likely to endanger the life and limb of nearly everyone in the party.
Loot: A lobobster's brightly hued carapace pieces can be used in armor or watercrafts. A perfect-condition carapace can earn up to 10 shells at a crafting collective.
GM Intrusion: A michronic energy attack on the lobobster goes awry; instead of disabling the creature's ward, it electrifies the water, inflicting 8 points of damage to everyone in short range.
Last night after my training, while the rest of the contestants were celebrating, I made my way there for some solitude. In the distant moonlight, I saw a claw poke above the water—a claw almost as large as a giant mudcrab.
It seemed to crackle with energy, and filled the night with an unearthly hum. Slowly the rest of the creature arose, revealing an enormous lobster the size of a house. This thing seemed new and different. Much different. I immediately returned to report to the Elders: this was something that would take a team to investigate.
