Kaiju 10 (30)

Early Access

Kaiju come in a variety of shapes, but all are of immense size. Much like a once-in-a-century storm, it is rare for a kaiju to appear, it causes immense destruction in its vicinity, and it usually sticks around for only a few days. A newly emerged kaiju is attracted by artificial structures, the more densely situated and elaborate the better, which they set to smashing with a vengeance. It’s hard to judge the size of things so far outside normal scale, but good estimates put most kaiju at over 300 feet (90 m) in height.

Kaiju rely primarily on their strength and mass, but many have some additional trick or ability that sets them apart from their kin, which usually translates into even more devastation.

After a rampage, a kaiju usually escapes by diving into a nearby sea or burrowing deep into the earth. It may appear again days, months, years, or decades later, attacking the same location or someplace entirely new.

Motive: Destruction

Environment: Usually near communities containing many high structures

Health: 140

Damage Inflicted: Two major wounds

Armor: 5

Movement: Short

Modifications: Dodge as level 8 due to size

Combat: A kaiju can strike within long range using a punch, kick, tentacle, tail, or other massive body part, affecting all creatures in a short area centered on a specific foe. Even creatures who dodge this attack still take a moderate wound.

Kaiju heal quickly, usually at a rate of 2 health per round.

Each kaiju is unique and has a specific name (usually given to it by survivors of a previous rampage). The following example kaiju have additional abilities as noted.

Interaction: Most PCs can’t directly interact with a kaiju unless they have a special device or other way to get the attention of one of the massive creatures. Doing so could give the characters a chance to trick or lure the beast, or maybe even charm one kaiju to fight another.

Use: After seeing the devastation caused by a kaiju, the PCs might decide (or be asked) to find a way to stop a projected future appearance by the same creature.

GM Intrusion: The character gains the direct attention of the kaiju. If it attacks them, they gain 5 XP (instead of 2); they still only have to award 1 XP to another player.
