Tidal Blades
Jin are curious monkey-like creatures that often jump from tree to tree in the jungle, following travelers and others of interest. They are quick to leave their high perches and jump down onto the shoulders or heads of those who pass beneath, using their nimble fingers and prehensile tails to make off with anything they can. Travelers who try to fend them off are often surprised by how quickly jin can go from cute to creepily vicious.
When jin are excited, they make a lot of noise, which invariably attracts bigger, more dangerous beasts to the area.
"Jin" is both singular and plural.
Jin means "guardian" in Yunai.
Motive: Curiosity, hunger
Environment: Lush jungles and forests, particularly within the Fury Isles
Health: 6
Damage Inflicted: Minor wound (3 points)
Movement: Short; long when leaping
Modifications: Initiative, Speed defense, and pickpocketing as level 4
Combat: Jin use whatever they can find in combat, throwing unripe or ripe fruit, stones, eggs, and tree branches at foes up to a long distance away with surprising force and accuracy. Jin often attack as a group. In this case, the GM can have a group of four to six of them operate as a single level 5 creature that inflicts a moderate wound (6 points).
Some jin colonies establish a beneficial relationship with larger ground creatures in the area, such as arcets, providing them with food from the trees in exchange for protection and additional fighting power. If jin feel like they're losing a fight or see something they really want to get their hands on, they'll call in their allies, using a particular high-pitched call.
Interaction: Jin are curious, creative, and highly motivated by shiny or oddly shaped items.
While it's possible to draw a jin's attention by dangling something novel nearby, it's much harder to keep their interest.
Use: One or more groups of jin working together can make a harrowing combat encounter for the PCs. They may steal something important from the characters, who must then make complicated plans to get it back.
Loot: Jin keep their stashes of stolen items in the hollows of trees, which likely hold a cypher, 1d6 shells, and a handful of shiny (but probably useless) objects.
GM Intrusion: As the characters attempt to sneak up on someone or something, a group of jin notices them and starts making a ruckus, drawing attention to the characters.
