GOMON 3 (9)

Tidal Blades

Gomon are blue and orange balloon-like creatures that lurk in vines and trees. They use their immense tongues, which bear striking similarities to hanging fruits, to snatch birds, slugs, and other small creatures unlucky enough to fall prey to their trap. Although gomon aren't large enough to swallow an adventurer whole, they can be dangerous anyway, for their sticky tongues can surprise or trip up tree climbers, cliff scalers, and fruit pickers.

When they sense danger, gomon vomit half-digested creatures as a defensive measure.

Motive: Hungers for flesh

Environment: Jungles, forests, orchards, and anywhere there are trees

Health: 9

Damage Inflicted: Minor wound (3 points)

Movement: Short

Modifications: Speed defense as level 2 due to sloth-like nature; trickery as level 4

Combat: A gomon's attack is typically passive; they set out their large, long tongues, which smell and look like hanging fruits, and wait until someone or something reaches for them. A creature that ouches the gomon's sticky tongue is stuck fast and takes a minor wound (3 points). Breaking free requires a Might defense roll, and even on a success, the victim takes an additional minor wound (3 points) from pulling away.

When startled, surprised, or threatened, gomon forcefully eject whatever's in their stomach—usually a fully or partially digested creature—directly at the interloper. Getting hit with a gomon's stomach contents inflicts a minor wound (3 points) and knocks the victim prone.

Interaction: Gomon are curious when not threatened, and may sometimes send a sticky tongue out to carefully explore a nearby creature or object. In this case, the tongue does not do damage, but instead leaves a pleasant-smelling slime on everything it touches.

Use: Some farmers and orchard owners raise or catch gomon and place them into their fruit rees to help protect the fruit from various creatures. Gomon are studied extensively in an attempt to discover their mechanisms for replicating the shape, size, and scent of fruit.

Loot: Occasionally, a couple of small items or even a cypher might be stuck to a gomon's massive tongue. It's also sometimes possible to find a couple of shells among the ejected stomach contents.

Gomon means "fruit devil" in Yunai .

GM Intrusion: Whatever the gomon last ate smells so bad that when it's ejected, everyone in long range is hindered for one round as their eyes water and they resist the urge to retch.
