Tidal Blades
Kings of the underworld, dragonslimes thrive in the deep sea, using their long, sticky appendages to strangle creatures to death and consume them slowly with burning slime. The creature's unusual body shape—a lower body like an octopus with a head reminiscent of a dragon—makes it a master of movement in the deep water. Dragonslimes have been known to put on huge, long-lasting displays of beauty with their breaches, jumps, and acrobatics in the sea.
Their strange builds make it equally difficult for them to maneuver in shallower waters, which might explain why they're rarely seen beyond the Vinian Ridge. The ones that do approach land are typically older, perhaps even sick and dying. These massive creatures crawl up the beach at night and attack unsuspecting prey, often preceded by a foul, unmistakable stench.
Motive: Hungers for flesh
Environment: Deep sea
Health: 24
Damage Inflicted: Major wound (8 points)
Movement: Short when in shallow water or on land; long when swimming
Combat: Dragonslimes catch a single foe in the coil of their massive tentacles, constricting them for a major wound (8 points) each round. Breaking free is a level 8 Might or Speed task.
If a captured victim dies or becomes severely injured, the dragonslime releases a deadly acidic slime that begins to consume parts of the body, inflicting an additional minor wound (3 points) per round (ignores Armor) if the victim is still alive.
Alternatively, the dragonslime may release sprays of deadly slime into the water around itself (up to a long distance away) that inflicts a moderate wound (5 points) to all living things that it ouches.
Interaction: Dragonslimes are beasts and act accordingly.
Use: While the characters are dealing with a storm at sea, a dragonslime surfaces, pushing their watercraft further into the swell. Lorehunters are especially interested in dragonslimes because of their beautiful waterdance displays.
Loot: The slime is a useful component in medicines, poisons, and experiments and can be sold to the Citadel for around 10 shells per creature. However, obtaining and transporting the substance is a dangerous and complicated task (level 8).
GM Intrusion: The dragonslime pushes itself up out of the water and drops back down again, creating a huge tidal wave.
