Planar Character Options
Someone who Strikes With an Amethyst Fist sacrifices a portion of their anatomy—part of one arm—to fuse a psionic prosthetic in its place, their "amethyst fist."The prosthetic is not composed of animated amethyst; that's just what the material resembles. Their new body part is composed of a rare psychically resonant mineral called tellectite. Tellectites are psionically potent crystals, prized by those with psychic abilities, mined in the dimension of Erewhon. Erewhon is hypothesized to be a hidden layer or portion of the Astral Plane that simply doesn't exist for divine beings, including celestials and fiends.
Those who study this path are sometimes referred to as amethyst monks. That study means you found a teacher willing to pass on the tradition's secrets. As part of that instruction, you spent three days in a concentrated meditative trance, during which time you projected an astral projection into other realms. You emerged from the trance with a fully functional prosthetic of amethyst crystal replacing one arm from the elbow down.
An amethyst monk directly connects not only to their own psionic potential, but also to a greater sea of mental power reverberating through the cosmos, sometimes called the Psychosphere. Upon gaining this connection, you discovered a whole new range of abilities, all empowered by your exotic new body part.
You gain a prosthetic that replaces your hand and part of your arm that resembles psionically animate amethyst. This fully articulated crystalline arm functions as a normal arm and hand. Your sensation of touch and proprioception is unaffected. However, the prosthetic is immune to damage inflicted by acid and poison, and it has +10 to Armor against damage conferred by all other attacks that are not magical or made with magical or adamantine weapons. Those resistances and immunities are not conferred to you, but would apply if you put your hand in lava or another extreme environment or tried to grab an electrified wire, as long as no other part of you was exposed.
You can choose to remove your prosthetic, or reattach it, as your action. The prosthetic doesn't function for anyone but you.
You can attempt to learn the surface thoughts of a creature you touch (or strike with a regular attack) with your amethyst prosthetic, even if the target doesn't want you to. To read the target's mind for up to one minute, you must succeed on an Intellect-based attack.
Enabler (as part of touch or attack action).
You are trained in unarmed attacks.
Ability Choice: Choose either Prosthetic of Reaching or Rapid Attack as your tier 3 ability.
You attack a target up to a short distance away with your amethyst prosthetic. This takes the form of a glowing psychic projection of your arm and hand, a projection that strikes just as hard and effectively as your regular attack.
Once per round, you can make an additional attack with your chosen weapon.
If an amethyst monk takes Rapid Attack as their tier 3 ability, their chosen weapon is their amethyst prosthetic.
You can compel obedience in others you touch (or first strike with a regular attack) with your amethyst prosthetic. To do this, make an Intellect-based attack. If you are successful, the target attempts to take the action you specify on their next turn. If the action would cause the target to directly harm themselves or their allies, your mental attack is hindered.
Enabler (as part of touch or attack action).
You deal 4 additional points of damage with attacks you make with your amethyst prosthetic until the end of the next round. In addition to the normal options for using Effort, you can choose to use Effort to extend the duration by one round for each level of Effort applied.
Ability Choice: Choose either Master of Unarmed Fighting Style or Mind Step as your tier 6 ability.
You are specialized in unarmed attacks. If you are already specialized in unarmed attacks, you instead deal 2 additional points of damage with unarmed attacks.
When you use your action to move, you can pass from your current position directly through a dimension of gauzy, translucent filaments stretching away in every direction, then back into the plane you started in as your action ends, up to a distance equal to your current movement. The benefit is that you don't pass directly through the intervening distance, but instead through a little-known branch of the Astral Plane called Erewhon. This means you could potentially enter a spot you couldn't see (because it was behind a wall or barrier) when you started moving. However, appearing somewhere without knowing what's there may have potential downsides.
GM Intrusions: Strangers sometimes fear the bearer of an amethyst prosthetic or want to steal it. Creatures from the Astral Plane or other dimensions of mind and thought are sometimes drawn to the amethyst monk.
