There are many folk in fantastical recursions, even those with wizardry and as-tonishing magic, who take a more restrained tack to their arcane arts. Preferring wisdom over brilliance, these often old or remote-dwelling witches and shaman practice older religions or tend to forgotten lore. But these fallen secrets are not so much corruptive as they are tempered by time and careful use. The wise only pass wise lessons down to the next generation of village healer.
Yet the wise ones should not be deemed meek, for their magics hold the weight of millennia of use, within the context of the recursions they're to be found within. They are willful and well aware of the value of their knowledge. Strangers who become them are often of this confident sort and I tend not to tangle with them. Wisdom is so much more useful when it's on your side.
