Paranoid
?
You're not the trusting sort. You keep an eye out for your enemies, which include all the people who've done you wrong before, but just as important, you look for the ones that you suspect are out there, watching you, waiting for you to slip up, or maybe waiting until you're alone or vulnerable. Of course, you know there's such a thing as paranoid personality disorder, and you try to stay on the sane side of that line. If you do say so yourself, you're mostly successful. But like the popular expression says, "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you."
You gain the following characteristics:
- Quick: +2 to your Speed Pool.
- Skill: You've always got at least one eye on your surroundings. You're trained in all tasks involving identifying or assessing danger.
- Skill: You're always ready to flee, resist, or fight back. You're trained in Intellect defense tasks to resist mental effects.
- It's Them! You are prone to seeing threats that aren't there. When you are in the presence of major phenomena related to the Strange or subjected to great stress (such as a serious physical threat), the GM can use GM Intrusion to direct your next action without awarding XP. You can still pay 1 XP to refuse the intrusion. The GM's influence is your paranoia taking over and thus is always something you would not likely do otherwise. It may have a negative impact on your allies, though it isn't usually directly harmful. For example, you might suddenly become unduly suspicious of a friend-not so much as to attack her outright, but enough to avoid coming to her aid while she is under attack by a third party.
